my approach

I’m pretty enthusiastic about movement. I hike, climb around on stuff, dance, play sand volleyball, play in the ocean, explore my neighborhood, ride horses, (casually) strength train, and practice yoga asana. I’ve been sharing yoga since 2005, and while I incorporate many aspects of yoga practice into my teachings, most of what I share centers asana. Why? I think that’s where I offer the most depth, since I’m really into movement and my experience includes years as an orthopedic physical therapist and a nerdy fascination with biomechanics, movement science, and pain science.

I believe there is no one right way to move or to engage with physical activity, and therefore my focus is on resourcing folks to find their own unique approach based on their unique body, lifestyle and interests. I teach within a Health at Every Size® context. It is important to me that people have the option to approach movement in collaboration WITH their body rather than against it, and with curiosity and compassion rather than fear.

I come to this work as a white, cisgendered, heterosexual, able-bodied, thin-privileged woman living in the USA on land stolen from indigenous people. I hold many life experiences, each influenced by the identities named above as well as many others (lots more of my story here if you're interested). I cannot know how my teaching is experienced by others with differing identities and lived experiences, but I do try to be mindful of my language, behavior, and the messages I send through my work, either intentional or unintentional. I am open to feedback if your experience of me has not aligned with my stated intention of inclusivity and mindfulness.

a note on pricing

I recognize that every person’s financial situation is different (and changes over time), and that barriers to access to money and other resources are often systemic in nature. I have benefited from consistent access to yoga, fitness, and healthcare resources for my entire life, and I want my work to be available to anyone that feels connected to my offerings. At the same time, I value the time, energy, and resources that go into producing this work, and it feels right that I should be able to cover my costs and also receive compensation for my efforts! This has led me to adopt sliding scale pricing for my membership as well as all series and courses.

Sliding scale pricing is a way to leverage privilege to support one another in community, where a service is offered at multiple price points to accommodate the financial circumstances of the purchaser. This pricing method provides an option for those that might typically be priced out of something to take part, and it’s one tool seeking to address systemic class inequality.

I ask that you reflect sincerely about your proximity to economic privilege and the access you have to resources, and pay what you are able in order to support access for all. Please know that there are no questions asked or judgments made in regards to your choice, and I am thrilled that you are here no matter what you pay.

Due to the limitations of the site, your price selection, if different from the posted price, will be accomplished using a coupon code, which can be found on each offering’s details page. Click the image that goes with your course for more information about using coupon codes if needed! Please note that I have options to pay for a course all at once, or in installments if that is helpful. The coupon codes work for both options.

If sliding scale pricing is new to you, here is some information that can help you locate yourself on the scale within my website:

  • The posted price point reflects a somewhat higher price than I would charge all participants were there no sliding scale. This is so that folks with ready access to resources have the opportunity to pay more in support of those with fewer financial resources. If you have financial security and little to no debt, own property, investments, and/or personal savings, and spend little time worried about securing necessities in your life, you have economic privilege and power in society. This price may be for you.

    • Please note that whatever price is the second highest option is the rate I would select as the “class value” were there no sliding scale.

  • The middle of the scale is for folks that do not find themselves described by the highest or the lowest price sections. If you have a steady income and are not spending a majority of your time thinking about meeting basic needs such as food, housing, healthcare, childcare, etc, but are paying off debt and/or working to build savings, you may belong here.

  • The lower end of the scale exists for those whose economic circumstances would prevent their participation in classes if there were not an option to access services at a cost that aligns with their economic realities. If you struggle to access resources such as food, shelter, health care, child care, and live paycheck to paycheck or with significant debt, this is your rate and you deserve the same opportunity to participate as the person who can pay the highest rate.

Please reach out to me with any questions.
